Fun Friday: S1E6

Hello everybody! I’d like to post today on Fun Friday The Chosen, Episode 6 as you see in the title. Again, if you want the app, the website is http://www.thechosen.tv/app, and if just for more information or to watch ox the computer (the app is preferable for better quality according to Dallas Jenkins the director of the show), go to http://www.thechosen.tv and you will find what you are looking for.

1. Biblical Roundtable

There is no clip that I can find on this roundtable (and I just might not be looking hard enough), but I’d like to share with you some thoughts on this discussion today. Here are the meditations for this discussion:

The Catholic Priest, Fr. David Guffi (sorry if I didn’t spell the last name right), mentions a scene in the Gospels where Jesus goes up to a secluded area to pray after He heals Peter’s Mother-in-law, which we will see either in this or future episodes. He sees the multitudes waiting for Him. It never clicked for me that this passage was referring to multitudes wanting healing. The question about each healing we read is, “Did this miracle serve the purpose as a proclamation of Christ’s kingdom message, or was the one presented to Him (and not always performed) just for somebody who wanted Him to entertain or perform tricks?” WeI looked at Matthew’s account which states that after Jesus prayed and rebuked the fever, He also healed many more. Luke records it similarly, and does mention Jesus leaving the region, but there from my research appears to be no inclination that Jesus refused to heal people. However, just because the Scriptures does not record an instance that someone was not healed doesn’t mean that was not the case. We believe from the reading of the Scriptures that the people that were not healed were those that were in unbelief. Perhaps, what this means is that if the person’s healing was not in connection with their relationship with God, it would not occur. I am only presenting things that are conversation starters with the Holy Spirit and perhaps your family, frs, and Church community. God bless! I was going to record the accounts, but I want you to do some digging of your own through much prayer and study. The point is that Jesus healed not to make a show of Himself, but to make a show of the Kingdom of God. He wanted the Father to be glorified through His work, not to be a trickster or entertainer. I forgot to mention that the account as recorded by Matthew is found in Matthew 8. Also, the account as recorded by Luke is located in Chapter 4 of Luke. God bless!

2. Episode 6

Take into consideration all that you found out in this Episode’s roundtable in prayerfully watching this show. Notice the Sanhedrin’s choice of demeanor toward Shmuel’s conduct. Here’s something to meditate on: Who are the 288 and what Scriptures refer to this group of people? Notice how the disciples know their place. Notice how Simon obeyed Jesus when He instructed Simon to go and attend to his family. What does it mean to have no guile? What does Shalom mean? Notice how Jesus interacts with the people. What is the story of the masacre of the children as recorded in Matthew? Do some extensive research on this topic not only in Scripture, but history. What was the demeanor of the traditional Jews in the 1st century? Also, why did the leper say, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” Was it doubt like people claim, or was it really faith? How should we seek our healing? In all these things I’m saying, you must take this into prayerful consideration, not just intellectual consideration. What is Simon doing as he takes care of his mother-in-law? What can you learn from this scene? What is Jesus’ response toward questions although He’s tired? Throughout the episode, document the demeanor of Jesus toward the people. What parable in Scripture did Jesus give in response to the parable of the fish and the net, where the angels sift between the good and bad “fish,” I.E. fishers of men? What lesson was Nicodemus trying to teach Shmuel? What limits are you putting on God? Should we keep God in a box? Do we “know it all?” In what mode does Jesus challenge the people’s beliefs in the scene after Nicodemus talks with his student Shmuel? What was Jesus saying in Matthew 6? What does it mean to “congradulate yourself in private?” What does Jesus do that is different than our many Church services? Study extensively the ways the Jewish rabbis teach/taught. Does Jesus allow interruptions to His teachings? Again, the key phrase we must pay attention to is, “If You are willing, You can do this.” Why does she say this? Is it faith? Is it doubt? Why did Jesus say, “Your forgiven?” Are our traditions correct? In what demeanor was He responding when the Pharisees asked, “Who is this that speaks blasphemy? I am only asking these questions to get us to think more on the humanity of Christ which we have not been introduced to before and can only imagine when reading the Scriptures. We need life breathed into what we read. God’s Word is alive. Is our tradition correct about Nicodemus? Again, not all of this is to be answered through this show but through much study and research.

God bless you all! I watched this episode as I wrote this, which is how I have come up with these questions. Study as the Spirit leads.
