The Lord’s Prayer, Part 1: Our Father

I want you to begin by going to your Bible and with a prayerful heart and a journal, read Matthew 6:9-13. Also, if you have Apple, you can click here. I’m not sure if they have it on Android but was not able to search for it either due to the way the Google Play store’s site is set up. If you can, please comment below for others (so they can just click the link). This is where I’m doing this study on the Lord’s Prayer, and the Lord is teaching me things that I think we all need to learn. As I stated in the title, we will be discussing the line, “Our Father.”

After you have read the entirety of the passage we will be discussing, you are now ready, so let’s move on. I want you to think about why Jesus didn’t tell us to pray, “My Father.” He says in Matthew 16:18, TPT that we are His “legislative assembly.” The Greek word that we use to mean “called out ones” means so much more than that. The word is Eklesia. Some say it means, “Church,” but the word denotes a Sanhedrin of sorts. This is why Jesus had us say, “Our Father,” because it isn’t about “me, myself and min,” or “me myself and I” like it is in the world. It is about “us.”

From The Beginning, Jesus Teaches Togetherness

I want you to keep the phrase, “Our Father,” in mind. We are now going to turn to Luke 10:25-37. I want you, in pondering the phrase above, to read the story of the Good Samaritan before continuing. Be sure to write in the journal as you do this.

It’s time to reflect.

  1. Think about those people that encourage and challenge you. Read Hebrews 10:24 as you do, and think about ways you can encourage them and fulfill this verse. It doesn’t even have to be someone you see every day. Maybe for you, it could be your favorite preacher. For others, it could just be your family and your pastor at your local Church.
  2. In Genesis, God said that it was not good for man to be alone. Think about why God gave us community and predestined that we be a part of His body. Think about your gifts that God has given you and how you can be a part of His body.
  3. Now, pray for your church leaders and those that God has given you, and pray for the person/people that come to mind when you hear the phrase, “Our Father in Heaven.”
  4. Not only are we the receivers of encouraging words etc. that strengthen our faith, but now it is our turn: I want you to stop what you’re doing and pray for anyone who you know is hurting, rather that be financially, spiritually, or mentally (I might have missed some but you get the point).
  5. Now, it is time for action. Spend time with your family, spouce, friends, etc. in prayer either today or some time this week. As you do, remember that you are united in the Spirit as you go to your Heavenly Father.

Final Thoughts

I want to thank you for reading this blog. If you like what you see, feel free to (if you can) download the atlas app, and I’m sure I’ll be back with another one of these. However, regardless: I want you to use the time you spend in reading my blogs to journal and pray. God bless!
