Copy And Paste

The following blog has to do with things on Social Media where people are told to copy and paste something to their wall on, more prominently, Facebook. Here’s an example:

I know about addiction far too well for it has impacted my life and that of my family and friends. My biggest pet peeve is when people say “you had a perfect life, how could you mess it up like this over alcohol or drugs” or “if you want help you should just ask” or “We’ve already been down this road before and that it didn’t work last time…” addiction literally consumes your soul and it’s all you can think about! No one wakes up one day and says I want to be an alcoholic, or addicted to heroin, cocaine, opiates, or meth for the rest of my life… So today more than ever, I pray for the healing of addiction for all that are still struggling. There’s a personal reason for asking everyone to put this message on their status for at least 1 hour. I know who’ll do it! Think of someone you love who has had an addiction or who is trying to fight this evil whether winning or losing. I hope to see continuous efforts towards recovery & this status on all of my friend’s walls.
Don’t share, please, copy and paste.

The only problem I have with people doing these challenges or even creating them is that when you copy and paste something to your wall on Facebook or your feed on other Social Networks, people cannot tell if this is your own writing or if it is someone else’s. Here is the definition of plagarism, which people advocate for if they make these challenges:

  • Noun. The act or behavior of plagiarizing.
  • Noun. An instance of plagiarizing, especially a passage that is taken from one work and reproduced in the work of another without attribution. (From Wordnik Dictionary, taken from the American Dictionary ofthe English Language, 5th Edition).

The following video discusses Plagiarism and what penalties you would get for copying and pasting someone else’s copyrited work into your essay or article you will do at school, but to me, the same principle applies even though people actually tell you to copy and paste in these challenges.

I hope this has helped you to understand why you should not engage in this activity. You need to remember the dangers of this. Speaking from experience: Once someone reads emails you sent them where you are copying and pasting, they at the start of you doing your own works won’t recognize that it is you. So, beloved, let’s be truthful with others, no matter what. God bless!

Editor’s note: I forgot to mention that when you do these challenges on Social Media, if you got it from a friend and they didn’t attribute the post to its original writer, you should not partake. However, if you know who wrote the post, even if it isn’t on the post, you can copy and paste it, but make sure that either at the top or bottom you tell everyone who the post belongs to and that you agree with that person’s post.

My name is Patelin Cogswell. I was born on September 24, 1998. I was born in Oklahoma City. I went to Oklahoma School for the Blind and graduated in 2017. I am called as a Minister of the Gospel and an Intercessor. However, this is not about me. My life is dedicated to making Christ alone. This blog was called kingdomadvance.family.blog because I didn’t want my name on the blog like others do because I feel like it is not me living but Christ living through me.
