I am sure that there are many a time when someone has to have everything read to them who is legally blind at worse, or at best, they are having only books and other resources that are ordered by their caretaker in Braille and have a Braille Writer (a device that is similar to that of pin and paper for sighted people). However, for those that have more money, you may be seeing them type with the device shown in the picture below.

The picture you are looking at is an Apex Braille Note BT 32. This device is now rare to find, seeing they now have a Braille Note Touch Plus, which is a new version of this device. The touch version, as is noted in this site, is more like a computer than the picture above.
Can A Blind Person Do The Same Things As A Sighted Person?
The answer to the above question is yes except for a few things: driving, moing the lawn, working construction, and any other thing that requires an abundance of sight. Some blind people are able to moe the lawn (I don’t know how but it can be done for some, which is great), so my conclusion, really (except for driving) is that we blind people can do anything we set our minds to. There may be other thingstare a bit more sdarier for us to do like fixing cars, possibly being a Doctor, etc. NewView, located in Oklahoma City, has a Call Center that blind people can work at as well.
The History Of Braille
I want to talk with you about the history of Braille. I’m sure many of you know the story, but just in case, I will summarize it from memmory as best as I can.
Before the invention of Braille, there was a man who created a tactile system for military personel so they could read in the dark. One day, there was a kid (I’m unsure of the age as again, I am only going off of memmory). This was a regular activity of his that he did with his father. This time was different. On this day, he accidently stuck the awl he was using in his eye which blinded him. From what I heard in the documentary I watched twice (at least) at school, his mother knew something was wrong the next day when he kept insisting it was dark. He’d heard later on about this tacktile system that I alluded to previously, and I am sure trying it, he felt the need for a different system; Braille. When forming his version of the system, he used a slate and stylus. In the documentary I listened to at school, they showed the comparison of the two systems using children reading. The system created by the army general took longer for the children to read, but Louis Braille’s system took a shorter amount of time for the children to read. Today, as you saw in the previous heading, we have Braillewriters, Braille-Notes and other advanced ways of writing using this system. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this blog. Please comment below and tell me how this has helped you. God bless!
